Background

Firefly Chocolate is a kid-friendly bean-to-bar chocolate company based out of Sonoma County. After two years of making chocolate, founder Jonas Ketterle believed he had discovered the perfect recipe. Ready to scale up production, he asked me to help him understand how families relate to chocolate.


The Research

I combined guerrilla research and formal methods in this dual-approach study. For breadth, I conducted a survey and taste testing with three dozen farmer’s market attendees. For depth, I conducted in-home interviews with chocolate-loving parents and their children.


Findings and Results

As a result of my research, Firefly Chocolate highlighted their unique production methods in a promotional video and redesigned their packaging to emphasize their core values. A line of single serving chocolates is under development, as are a series of chocolate and environmental workshops.
